RE Amemiya RX-7
Our man in Hong Kong has resurfaced, with some pictures of a true legend.
He had this to say about the car:
Hong Kong’s trends, fashion and pop-culture are heavily influenced by what is big in Japan, and the car scene here is no exception. The Initial D comic series is very popular in Hong Kong and this is reflected in the popularity of 80s-90s Japanese cars amongst the local petrol-heads. In the early hours of Sunday morning, whilst the majority of Hong Kongers are sleeping off the night before, the still air of the New Territories is often pierced by the crackling exhausts and whistling waste-gates of Japanese sports cars attacking the tight and twisting bends of the country roads. As drivers migrate away from the technology heavy cars of the modern era to the simpler and more rewarding cars of the 80’s and 90’s, more and more cars like this RE Amemiya tuned RX-7 can be found on the roads of Hong Kong.
Rotary Engine Amemiya was started in 1974 by Isami Amemiya and specializes, you guessed it, in rotary engines. Having produced a whole host of modifications for a wide swath of the Japanese production car landscape alongside successful participation in the SuperGT racing series, RE Amemiya is without a doubt one of the legendary tuners of recent decades.
