Motorcycle Deer Strike
This video has been making the rounds on the web this past week, and it sure is an impressive one!
InHg managed to catch up with the rider in this video to get a firsthand account of the experience, which was no doubt a wild one.
The video was taken at Snowshoe Mountain resort via a GoPro helmet cam while racing in a stage rally called Rally West Virginia 2012. I was in second place at that point and the top three places were only separated by a few minutes.
I was only about a half mile from the finish line after two days and 300+ miles of racing so I was pushing hard to the finish but thought I was pretty much home free. I didn’t really have time to react to the deer but I knew once we made contact I still needed to get to the finish quickly to avoid slipping to third. After getting knocked off the bike I knew was ok so I got to the bike before it could stall and raced on to the finish.
Family and friends said they heard the thump and the metal on pavement but were surprised to see me crest the final slope so quickly. The only photographer that saw it all (Cory Wagoner, Raleigh, NC) said he was surprised I ran to the bike and got back on after a quick roll on the ground and that I gave him a thumbs up as I raced by.
Thanks to YT user Ft4lbch for the words, and for also having the wherewithall to wear a GoPro!
